Liverpool are locked in contract talks with several of their players as they look to get some agreements over the line
Liverpool have a number of players out of contract within the next 18 months but appear keen to avoid a repeat of that scenario in the future.
Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are all out of contract in 2028 after the trio joined the club back in the summer of 2023. The Reds are in talks with all three players over new contracts as they look to avoid a situation where several key members of the squad are approaching the end of their deals at the same time.
Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate are both out of contract at the end of the season while Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones, Alisson Becker and several others are out of contract in 2027.
Talks could be about to hit a major breakthrough with Szoboszlai, however, as the Reds are willing to meet his wage demands.
The Hungarian has been one of the Reds’ standout players this campaign and TEAMtalk report the player’s camp want around £250,000 in any new deal. Crucially, Liverpool are ‘ready to meet those expectations’.
That would represent a significant step forward in talks and bring Szoboszlai in line with some of Liverpool’s highest earners. Van Dijk and Salah were both handed huge wages when they signed new deals at the club last year while the likes of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz are on around £280,000-a-week and £200,000-a-week, respectively.
Liverpool will hope to get an agreement in place as quickly as possible as the above report also states that Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have made enquiries about the 25‑year‑old.
Speaking about the player last month, manager Arne Slot said of him: “He improved this season on the ball compared to last season when I already liked him. He plays with even more confidence and now even more involved in chances and goals.
“If you want to be a leader, (you should be) leading by example, he’s always done that, always the one without the ball who is incredible, the way he presses, the intensity.”
Speaking earlier this season, former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock praised for Szoboszlai for establishing his importance to the squad following the £116m arrival of Florian Wirtz.
"They were trying to get back to what they were doing best last season and they did that against Real Madrid.
"It's a huge step forward and now it's about drip feeding their newer players in, but first they will have to come to terms with how Liverpool play and why Liverpool were successful last season.
"Over recent weeks it has been a bit too easy to get at Liverpool's defence through their midfield, but it's almost as if they've had a meeting and the defenders have told the midfielders that they need to be protected more.
"Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch weren't great at the start of this season, but they have been really impressive in the past two games. They have to continue that form now.
"It's imperative you have those two on the pitch but when you add in Dominik Szoboszlai, wow! The energy he has, the recovery challenges he makes and the way he gets to the edge of the penalty area is so impressive.
"There was talk about Florian Wirtz taking his place but he has said: 'Absolutely not, you're not having my place'."
