Is Giannis Antetokounmpo Now Part of Chelsea FC Women’s Ownership? NBA Superstar's Partnership With Serena Williams' Husband Alexis Ohanian Explored

After an uncertain trade deadline, Giannis Antetokounmpo remained with the Milwaukee Bucks. Antetokounmpo is still recovering from injury, but he's ramping up his rehabilitation. He's also announced another investment after a controversial move to be part of a prediction betting company.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Antetokounmpo announced that he's now a minority owner of Chelsea F.C. Women in the Women's Super League in England. He'll join Serena Williams' husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in the ownership group.

"I'm proud and honored to partner with my friend @alexisohanian, joining the ownership group of @ChelseaFCW, a historic club built on passion, excellence, and a winning culture," Antetokounmpo tweeted. "Chelsea’s history speaks for itself, and I’m excited to contribute to the future by supporting continued growth and impact in women’s sport. This is about ambition, legacy, and pushing the game to new heights. Up the Chels! 🦁 💙."

Chelsea F.C. Women is owned by BlueCo, a consortium led by American billionaire Todd Boehly. Other members of the consortium include LA Lakers and LA Dodgers owner Mark Walter and Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss.

BlueCo also owns Chelsea FC in the English Premier League and RC Strasbourg in France's Ligue 1.

As for Giannis Antetokounmpo, he has a growing portfolio in sports ownership. He has minority shares in the Milwaukee Brewers of the MLB, Nashville SC of the MLS and the Los Angeles Golf Club of the TGL.

Giannis Antetokounmpo's controversial announcement on Friday

Before becoming a part-owner of Chelsea F.C. Women, Giannis Antetokounmpo stirred the pot with a different announcement. Giannis joined the betting company Kalshi as a shareholder, which is a controversial move considering the current investigation into betting in the NBA.

While Kalshi is mainly known for sports betting, they also create bets about economics, politics, cultural events and probably anything under the sun. The company has received a lot of criticism, especially after it created a bet regarding what's happening in Gaza.

"The Greek Freak" received a lot of backlash for his move, though Kalshi already released a statement assuring that Antetokounmpo is not betting on the NBA.

"As an active player in the NBA, Antetokounmpo will be forbidden from trading on markets related to the NBA, per Kalshi’s strict terms of service that ban insider trading and market manipulation," the statement read, as per The Athletic.

A lot of fans were critical of Antetokounmpo's move, with a lot of them bashing the Milwaukee Bucks superstar in the replies to his Kalshi announcement.
