Liverpool could now launch shock summer move for "amazing" £35m player - journalist

Liverpool are keen on potentially making a shock move for former player Jarell Quansah in the summer transfer window, journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed.

The Englishman joined Bayer Leverkusen in a £35m deal at the end of last season, seeing it as an opportunity to receive more regular minutes than he was getting at Anfield.

Some were critical of the decision at the time, due to Quansah’s exit affecting Liverpool’s squad depth, and in hindsight, it would have been nice to have him around since August.

Now, according to Football Insider‘s O’Rourke, the Reds “could be about to re-sign” him this summer, adding that they have a “buy-back clause as part of the deal that can be triggered from 2027. ”

He adds that Quansah’s “return to Anfield can be sealed with a pre-agreed fee, and the contract and paperwork are already in place for the transfer to go through.”

Should Liverpool re-sign Quansah this summer?

Quansah is a talented young central defender who did a solid job in a Liverpool shirt, with Alexis Mac Allister hailing him in the past:

“He was amazing. The job he did with Virg [Virgil van Dijk] is so important for the team because it gives us that calmness that we need to play football. Even on the ball he was amazing. Very happy and very glad for him.”

Opinion may be split about Quansah returning to Liverpool, however, with some feeling he was never quite good enough to be a genuinely reliable player, while others rated him more highly.

Jeremy Jacquet is also coming in once this season reaches its conclusion, but with all due respect to Quansah, the Reds need to target a more proven and elite option at the back.

The 23-year-old can carve an impressive career for himself as the years pass, but his time at Liverpool has been and gone, and sealing a reunion wouldn’t make a huge amount of sense.

There was a reason why the Merseysiders were willing to let him go in the first place, and it is hard to picture him becoming one of the first names on the team sheet over time.
