Arsenal picked up another three points in the Premier League this season against Sunderland
Arsenal won 3-0 at home against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon. Striker Viktor Gyokeres scored twice against the Black Cats at the Emirates Stadium. Midfielder Martin Zubimendi also got himself on the scoresheet.
The Gunners remain top of the Premier League table after 25 fixtures. They are hoping that this is the year that they finally get their hands on the trophy. Mikel Arteta’s side are nine points ahead of both Manchester City and Aston Villa at the summit.
Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi shines against Sunderland
Arsenal’s Zubimendi put in a solid performance against Sunderland. He has turned out to be a shrewd signing for the Gunners this season and has become a key player. They snapped him up from Real Sociedad last year and he has since adapted well to life in England.
Zubimendi, 27, was snapped up by Arsenal to boost their midfield department. He has injected quality into their options in the middle of the park. The Spain international, who has 24 caps to his name, has flourished under the guidance of Arteta and will want to keep his form going for as long as possible as they look to stay ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa to top spot come May.
Arsenal star Martin Zubimendi catching the eye
Prior to his move to Arsenal, Zubimendi caught the eye at Real Sociedad. He rose up through their academy ranks and was a regular at various different youth levels before breaking into the first-team as a youngster. The San Sebastian-born man made 236 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga club and scored 10 goals.
He has played 34 games for the Gunners to date, 25 of which have come in the league, and he has found the net on six occasions. After moving to his new country, he said at the time: “This is a huge moment in my career. It's the move I was looking for and one I wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are. I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me. They have shown their potential recently and the best is yet to come.”
Meanwhile, Arteta added: “Martin is a player who will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team. He will fit in really well and he has all the attributes to be a key player for us. The standard he has consistently performed at over the last few seasons for both club and country is exactly why we are so excited to have him with us. We all welcome Martin and his family to the club.”
