Report: Chelsea now in talks to sign another Serbia star after making Dusan Vlahovic enquiry

Chelsea might not have made any senior signings in the January transfer window, but that doesn’t mean the transfer team have not been hard at work identifying summer targets.

The Blues failed to make any additions to Liam Rosenior’s first team in January, despite interest in the likes of Jeremy Jacquet and Douglas Luiz. They did add 17-year-old left-back Yisa Alao for just £1m.

The summer window is expected to be a busy one for Chelsea, given the club spent almost £300m in the last off-season. Todd Boehly and Clearlake clearly feel there is better value for money in the summer.

Targets are already being identified by Chelsea, with Dusan Vlahovic supposedly the subject of talks over a possible free transfer from Juventus. But there is another Serbia star that Chelsea now want to sign.

Chelsea and Arsenal in talks to sign Club Brugge talent

As the son of an elite footballer, it is always difficult to follow in a Father’s footsteps. Frank Lampard did it, but many fail to live up to the heights of their old man. Well, Chelsea’s latest target looks like he might.

Dejan Stankovic was an Inter Milan icon, the author of one of the Champions League’s best-ever goals. Now, his son Aleksandar is thriving at Club Brugge after leaving his father’s old side Inter last summer.

According to HLN, Inter have a £20m buyback clause in his Brugge contract and certainly, they may press the red button on said clause. But Inter are not the only side interested in landing the 20-year-old.

Indeed, the midfielder is also a target for Chelsea and Arsenal as per the report, with both London clubs said to be in talks with his agents at Roc Nation and Brugge themselves over a potential summer deal.

What Andy Brassell has recently said amid Tottenham interest

Chelsea and Arsenal are not the only clubs to have been linked with luring Stankovic to English football. The youngster, who has had a hand in 11 goals in 36 games for Brugge this season, was linked with Spurs.

TalkSPORT touted Tottenham’s interest in December, with European expert Andy Brassell sharing what has impressed him most about Dejan’s son, stating the midfielder is excellent at retaining possession.

“Stankovic has obviously got a huge amount of quality. He’s tough. He doesn’t really give the ball away,” Brassell confirmed, amid a possible summer move to the Premier League in the coming months.

Chelsea do need a midfielder. Moises Caicedo is obviously a mainstay, but Enzo Fernandez is preferred further forward, and Reece James cannot be relied upon to stay fit. Andrey Santos has done really well.

But another body in the middle is important, given Chelsea look good to qualify for Europe again. A player like Stankovic, who can score goals from deep, might just be the kind of signing Chelsea need.
