Liverpool eye Luis Diaz replacement

The Reds will look to sign a player of a similar playing style this summer.

A key part of Liverpool’s title charge last season was the explosive winger Luis Diaz.

The Colombian was an unpredictable but highly skilled footballer, bringing excitement to all of Liverpool’s attacks.

Despite winning the Premier League at the end of last season, Luis Diaz felt it was time for his departure after failing to agree a contract extension on better terms with Liverpool.

He signed with Bayern Munich and has been enjoying a successful first season in Germany.

A direct replacement for the winger wasn’t signed last summer, with the internal view being that rising star Rio Ngumoha would step into the first team set up and be a long-term replacement for the departed Colombian.

That path hasn’t really been carved out by Arne Slot as Ngumoha has spent the majority of the season on the bench, limited to very few minutes in a Liverpool shirt this season.

The Sunday Times has now revealed a potential reason for that, as they explain how Liverpool will look to sign a direct Luis Daiz replacement this summer.

The article reads: “The Liverpool hierarchy remain behind Slot and the deadline-day signing of the hugely rated 20-year-old French defender, Jeremy Jacquet, who will arrive in the summer, is a further step in constructing the future team”

“One of Liverpool’s biggest weaknesses since losing Luis Diaz, is the lack of a one-on-one player who can rip through opponents on the flank – and that could we be addressed in the summer.”

This potentially hints at a lack of faith shown in Rio Ngumoha by Arne Slot.

Incomings and outgoings will occur this summer and it will be fascinating to see how the squad looks at the start of next season.
