Chelsea star Cole Palmer has opened up about the speculation regarding his future at the club. He dismissed rumors about a potential exit, claiming he doesn't pay attention to them.
Palmer scored a hat-trick in the Blues' 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux in the Premier League on Saturday. He opened the scoring in the 13th minute via a penalty, before scoring another from the spot in the 35th minute. He completed his hat-trick three minutes later. He did his trademark 'Cold' celebration before putting his hands to his ears.
After the game, the Chelsea midfielder was asked about his future at the club, and he answered (h/t GOAL):
“Everyone loves to chat rubbish, don't they? I don't pay too much attention to it. You see things. But I feel like I've come from a strong place anyway so I don't pay attention to it.”
Last month, some reports claimed that Palmer is looking to return to Manchester in the summer, linking him to Manchester United. The Englishman came through Manchester City's academy and made 41 senior appearances for them, recording six goals and two assists.
Chelsea then signed Palmer in 2023, and he's contributed 51 goals and 31 assists in 114 games for them.
Cole Palmer opens up on Chelsea's win over Wolves and his injury struggles
The Blues had 69% possession against Wolves in their Premier League clash on Saturday. They made 13 attempts, with seven being on target, as compared to the hosts' eight attempts, with three being on target. Palmer shared his assessment of the game, saying (h/t Chelseafc.com):
"It feels good to get three points and score some goals. It was a good one in difficult conditions today. As long as I can keep scoring hat-tricks, I’m happy. I think we did well in the first half. The second half was a bit flat, but, personally, it feels good to get back on the scoresheet. I don’t really pay attention to milestones, but when you see them, it’s nice."
Palmer has face with multiple injury issues this season and has made just 17 appearances across competitions. Opening up about his struggles, the midfielder said:
"I’ve never been injured before in my career. This is something new to me, and I’m still finding out how to deal with it. It has been frustrating, I don’t feel like I’ve played a game this season fully fit. I’ve been going into games thinking, 'Can I do certain things? Can I not?' Overthinking it."
"The staff have been really good. I’ve been working closely with the physios on a day-to-day basis. They have all helped, and I’ll get through it. I’m not here to make excuses, and I’ll get over the injuries. I know what I can do when I’m fit, and hopefully I can get back to that soon. For now, I just manage it and get there," he added.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are fifth in the Premier League standings, 13 points behind leaders Arsenal. They will next face Leeds United at home on Tuesday, February 10.
