Gary Neville's bold Mo Salah claim amid Liverpool star's quiet showing vs Man City

Mohamed Salah’s decline this season has become a concern for Liverpool, and he did little of note in the Manchester City defeat.

After watching the Egyptian in action against Newcastle United last weekend, Liverpool fans were worried about Salah and his lack of pace.

Toni Kroos noticed the same problem, suggesting the 33-year-old has now lost a yard of pace.

In the Premier League, Arne Slot was benching Salah before that infamous outburst vs Leeds United in December.

He has since made his return to the eleven following the 2026 AFCON coming to a close, but his performances have been lacking.

Gary Neville predicts Mohamed Salah will come good at Liverpool

Salah had not scored a league goal since November before Liverpool faced Manchester City on Sunday.

Former England right-back Gary Neville covered the game as a commentator and pundit live for Sky Sports.

When doing so, he shared his thoughts on Salah and how he will fare in the remainder of 2025/26.

Liverpool really need a strong end to the season if they are to catch Manchester United in the race for Champions League football.

And in what would be a big boost to the Reds, Neville believes Salah will hit form in the coming weeks and months.

He said: “It wouldn’t surprise me if Salah hit a run of form before the end of the season. You can’t keep these great players down forever and he is a great player.”

Mohamed Salah future uncertain

While Salah may or may not reach his top level on a consistent basis again this term, his long-term future is in doubt.

He is under contract until 2027, but Saudi Pro League transfer interest once again returned in January.

Losing such a club icon would be sad, but a summer move could well be best for all parties.

Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz are the future of Liverpool’s attack.

But Slot, or any manager, will have a hard time starting said trio and Salah without hampering the team.
