The Celtics saw their five-game winning streak come to a halt on Sunday afternoon as they fell 111-89 to the Knicks at TD Garden.
Jaylen Brown led the way for the Celtics in what was a miserable afternoon for the Celtics offense as a team. The All-Star finished with a team-high 26 points, making him Sunday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. It was the fourth straight 25-point performance for Brown, who did most of his damage against New York from inside the arc. He shot 11-of-25 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line while also adding four assists, two rebounds, a block and a steal in 33 minutes.
However, Brown got little help from his teammates in the loss, as Derrick White was the only other Celtic player to score more than 11 points in the defeat. Boston shot under 40 percent from the field and just 7-of-40 3-point attempts in one of the team’s worst offensive performances of the season. An injured Sam Hauser (back spasms) did not suit up, which did not help Boston against a stout Knicks defense.
Brown struggled to keep pace with a high-powered Knicks offense as Jalen Brunson led all scores with 31 points while six different players scored in double figures, including new trade addition Jose Alvarado for the visitors.
The Knicks take a 2-1 edge in the season series with the victory, with one head-to-head matchup remaining between the two teams at Madison Square Garden in April.
Brown and the Celtics will look to bounce back in their final game before the All-Star Break on Wednesday night when they host old friend Anfernee Simons and the Chicago Bulls.
