Donovan Mitchell to participate in All-Star Saturday

DENVER — The Cavs will have a participant in NBA All-Star Saturday.

Leading scorer Donovan Mitchell, recently named an All-Star for the seventh consecutive season, has been chosen to compete in the State Farm 3-Point Contest.

Mitchell, the league leader in made 3s and a past participant, is one of eight who will be vying for this year’s crown.

The others are former 3-point champ Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns, Charlotte Hornets rookie sharpshooter Kon Knueppel, Philadelphia All-Star starter Tyrese Maxey, Denver’s Jamal Murray, Milwaukee forward Bobby Portis Jr., Heat swingman Norman Powell and Blazers veteran Damian Lillard — the latter of whom has not played this season because of injury recovery but is looking to match the contest record with a third title.

In 49 games this season, Mitchell is shooting 37.9% from beyond the arc, the third best mark of his career.

This will be his second time as a Cavalier competing in the annual event that showcases the league’s best marksmen. In 2024, after teammate Sam Merrill declined an invite, Mitchell wore Merrill’s No. 5 jersey, before getting eliminated in Round One.

The 3-Point Contest will take place on Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. ET at Los Angeles’ Intuit Dome. It will be the opener of All-Star Saturday, followed by Shooting Stars and Slam Dunk. Nobody from Cleveland was selected to compete in the other two events. Second-year swingman Jaylon Tyson will be part of Rising Stars, which will be played one night earlier.

The 29-year-old Mitchell is attempting to become the third Cavalier ever to win the 3-Point Contest, joining franchise legends Mark Price and Kyrie Irving.
