Last weekend’s bar room brawl in the last few minutes against eventual victors Chelsea could have major repercussions for defender Jean Clair Todibo: The red mist descended and his attempt to throttle an opponent quite rightly earned him an early shower. The only surprising part of the whole incident was that Todibo alone got his marching orders when Mavropanos and debutant Traore could just as easily have joined him.
The bad news is likely to keep on coming for Todibo who received a three game ban and missed yesterday’s Burnley trip and won’t be available for the Manchester United Premier League encounter on Tuesday or the FA Cup fourth round tie agains Burton Albion at the weekend.
The West Ham defender may just find he doesn’t get his place back. Debutant Axel Disasi strolled imperiously around looking as if he’d been playing all season and looks to have inspired Mavropanos to ‘up’ his game: As footballinsider247.com observed:
“Disasi caught the eye with a calm and composed defensive display in Lancashire, and West Ham fans have already fallen in love with their new arrival” – one fan comment in their article suggested ” that he could get a deck chair and a cigar out,” such was the composure of his display”
Which means West Ham’s almost £80 million-worth of defenders could be sitting out the rest of the season as the £17 million Mavropanos and the loanee Disasi show them how it should be done.

Which will make the Hammers’ summer of 2024 recruitment – when the duo joined West Ham- look even more questionable with Fullkrug, Rodriguez, Guilherme, Foderingham and loanee Soler already departed.
Fortunately for the Chairman, Wan-Bissaka, Summerville and Kanté appear to be the only three recruits from that summer splurge who are sparing West Ham’s blushes. Todibo looks to be on an upward trajectory even though likely to have to bide his time now: For Max Kilman, after sitting on the bench and watching loanee Disasi show him how it should be done, surely an ignominious end awaits in the summer window if the Irons can recoup even close to half of what they paid for him.
