It really has been a season to forget for Liverpool and Arne Slot so far.
There was much expectation on the Reds going into the 2025/26 campaign as defending champions.
Liverpool spent well in the summer transfer window and added some big-name stars to their ranks.

Fast forward to February, however, and the thought of the Merseysiders even challenging Arsenal for the title is laughable.
Liverpool lost to Manchester City on Sunday, meaning they have now won just one of their last seven league matches.
It follows on from a run of nine defeats in 12 earlier this season, which, put together, leaves Slot’s men sixth in the Premier League table.

They are already starting to lose ground on Manchester United and Chelsea, both of whom have now won four in a row under new managers.

Meanwhile, Opta are now saying Liverpool will end the 2025/26 campaign in sixth place.
But what happened to the last Liverpool coach who finished sixth in the English top-flight?
For many years now, the Reds have managed to secure top-tier European football or, at worst, a place in the Europa League after finishing fifth.
The last time Liverpool ended a league campaign in sixth came in 2014/15 under Brendan Rodgers.
Rodgers was in a close title race the season prior, but it all fell apart in the following year.
The Northern Irishman was then sacked by Liverpool on October 4, 2015, being replaced by Klopp.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the current Liverpool boss, but it has been suggested by two pundits that Slot could be let go if 2025/26 doesn’t end with qualification for the Champions League.
For that to happen, it would require a major upturn in form, and the 47-year-old has since commented on his team’s struggles in the Premier League when speaking live to Sky Sports after the Man City fixture on February 8.
Slot said: “We know what the table looks like. But we also know there are a lot of games to be played. I said to the players, again, that they showed today what they are capable of.
“I definitely see progression but we also know there are not so many games to be played so there is not a lot of room for error or mistakes.
“It’s another time, in my opinion, that we didn’t get what we deserved. I can keep saying it but people will probably be annoyed. I try to analyse the game as fairly as possible and that’s what I’m trying to do now.”
