Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has already been pencilled in for a return to Anfield amid rising speculation over Arne Slot's future.
The Reds are enduring a disappointing defence of their Premier League crown with the collapse to Manchester City leaving Liverpool languishing in sixth spot. Slot is facing major scrutiny over his future after he watched his side fall to a 2-1 defeat in front of a frustrated Anfield crowd.
Speculation south of the border has suggested a temporary replacement could be brought in for the under-fire Dutchman until the end of the season, with some diehards suggesting Gerrard. The club hero has been out of work since leaving Al-Ettifaq in the midst of a disappointing Saudi Pro League season last term, having previously managed Rangers and Aston Villa.
And Gerrard will be on Merseyside next month. The former captain is set to feature in a Liverpool Legends charity match clash against Borussia Dortmund on March 29 alongside the likes of Pepe Reina, Jerzy Dudek, Sami Hyypia and Gregory Vignal.
In a sit down with Ibrox icon Ally McCoist towards the end of last year, Gerrard admitted he was in no rush to return to the dugout. In a discussion about his decision to rule himself out of the running for the Rangers hot seat before Danny Rohl's arrival, he explained he won't take a job if he doesn't feel it's the right fit.
He said to TNT Sports: "If you get the right tools, I've got the confidence in myself that I can make Rangers good again. But, if I'm not surrounded by the right people, haven't got the right tools, I'm not a magician."

However, he did make a concession if Liverpool came calling - while offering public support for Slot: “I’ll be brutally, brutally honest with you. I’d help Liverpool in any department at any minute of every day. I’d help them with anything.
"I don’t want the Arne Slot to lose his job.I want him to fix this and turn it around and make Liverpool great.
"It was bouncing all over the city four or five months ago when Liverpool won the league.
"I’m a Liverpool fan. I want the best for Liverpool. But if Liverpool need me in any department at any time, I’ll be there for them."
