Everything you need to know after Dominik Szoboszlai was sent-off for Liverpool against Man City;
Dominik Szoboszlai was sent-off in the dying stages of Liverpool's defeat to Manchester City. The Reds were beaten 2-1 at Anfield in the Premier League.
Szoboszlai had earlier put Liverpool ahead with a stunning free-kick. However, goals from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland secured City all three points.
But City thought they had scored a third in the closing stages of the match. Rayan Cherki rolled the ball from inside his own half after Alisson Becker had gone upfield in search of an equaliser.
However, before the ball hit the back of the net, Szoboszlai pulled back Haaland - who then tugged back the Hungary captain. However, referee Craig Pawson initially gave the goal, but VAR soon got involved.
And following a review, Pawson decided Haaland had been denied a goal-scoring opportunity, so he ruled out the goal, awarded a free-kick 30 yards out and sent-off Szoboszlai. The midfielder received a straight red card.
Szoboszlai will, therefore, serve a one-match ban in the Premier League when Liverpool visit the Stadium of Light on Wednesday night. He will be able to return to the matchday for the FA Cup game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
Speaking after the game, Arne Slot said: "But I can live with the red card for Dom. If you like football you say; 'Ah, leave it as it is, it's a goal, it's good for them, it's good for everyone'. But if you are the Sunderland manager then you prefer to see a red card. That's the rule and follow the rules is all we ask."
