**Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is under huge pressure to keep his job, and reliable journalist David Lynch has now provided an update on his future.**
The Reds were beaten 2-1 at home to Manchester City in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon, with Erling Haaland scoring a last-gasp penalty.
It was yet another late defeat for Liverpool, whose Premier League title defence has been a shambles, and the pressure has been cranked up on Slot again, who [spoke honestly to the media](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/arne-slot-press-conference-verdict-liverpool-1-2-manchester-city) after the final whistle:
_“A feeling of anger, a feeling of disappointment, of course. First half, City were the better team on the pitch without creating that many big chances, expect for the one from Haaland in the first minute. But they played easier with the ball. But the improvement we have made since three or four months ago I think was visible for everyone.”_
Now, Lynch has taken to [_X_](https://x.com/davidlynchlfc/status/2020595021645599007?s=20) to say that Slot remains safe in his job at Liverpool for the time being, but this poor run of form is unsustainable:
_“The word from Liverpool is that Arne Slot is safe, but I don’t really buy the idea he can afford endless poor performances and bad results until the end of the season. Today was both, in my opinion.”_
For many Liverpool fans, Slot has now reached the point of no return, with results and performances simply not good enough this season.
Incredibly, the Merseysiders have won only six of their last 20 matches in the league, and their hopes of qualifying for next year’s Champions League feel like they are hanging by a thread.
It is hard to see anything changing while Slot is in charge – there is a painful predictability about Liverpool’s trip to Sunderland on Wednesday evening – and it feels like a change is needed before the season is officially over in all competitions.
Bringing Steven Gerrard in as interim manager could be a solution, should the likes of Xabi Alonso and Luis Enrique want to wait until the end of the season.
Slot should always be loved for what he achieved last season, but it is hard to see him turning things around now, and a new manager needs to take the team forward.
