The latest summer transfer rumours, including update from Newcastle United and Chelsea
After a fairly quiet transfer window centered solely on player departures, Chelsea are expected to kick off Liam Rosenior’s first summer in charge with a series of high profile signings.
The outlet explains Rosenior’s side are preparing a blocbksuter £100m offer to sign last season’s PFA Young Player of the Year, who has caught the eye once again this season with a series of stellar displays for both club and country, which have left him in a healthy position to compete for a starting spot at the upcoming World Cup.
What next for Morgan Rogers?
Aston Villa are aiming to establish themselves as regulars in Europe’s elite competition for years to come. Rogers is pivotal to the way the team play and is arguably right up there with the best talents the club has had in the Premier League era.
Rogers scored 14 times and assisted 16 in 54 matches across all competitions last year, and is already on course to equal that this year with a tremendous 10 goals and seven assists, including a sublime finish against Bournemouth last time out.
The 3AddedMinutes verdict: According to reports from Football Insider, Rogers has a release clause of around £120m in his deal, meaning any efforts to buy him would likely make him one of the most expensive footballers in Premier League history. Aston Villa will be reluctant to sell given the player’s importance to the team but could potentially entertain offers if it helps them with their PSR situation. However, with the club in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League they might while have enough to keep him for the forseeable future as they continue to build a team around him.
Newcastle United plot move for former Liverpool ace
Tonali has been central to Newcastle’s success and is likely to command an astronomical fee if he does depart St James’ Park having recent signed a contract extension until the summer of 2029, with an option of a one-year extension.
Morton, a member of England’s Under-21 European Championship winning team in 2025, was on the books at Liverpool between 2009 and 2025 - enjoying solid loan spells with Blackburn Rovers and Hull City before making a permanent move to Lyon in the summer.
He’s racked up 29 appearances since moving to France and has registered two goals and three assists in that time. His Lyon team topped the Europa League group stage ahead of Aston Villa and are also flying high in Ligue 1 in third position. Morton has been a stalwart in the side and has caught the eye with a series of stellar displays in defensive midfield.
The 3Added Minutes verdict: Newcastle United need to strengthen their midfield options regardless of what happens with Tonali, who’s form has dropped significantly since his heroics of last season. They are particularly suspectible to teams that play on the counter attack and could benefit from a player of Morton’s profile to stop teams cutting through them on the break so easily.
It’s not yet clear how much Morton is valued by Lyon after joining for an estimated £15m but if they can get him at the right price he could be a steady addition, particularly if the club can qualify for Europe once again after a lacklustre first half of the season.
