Liverpool fans let Marc Guehi know exactly what they thought of his decision to join Manchester City this January during a disappointing defeat at Anfield on Sunday.
The Reds had thought they’d exacted some measure of revenge upon the centre-back after he decided not to wait to sign for them this summer, but fell to a late Erling Haaland penalty.
It was a painful defeat, and one which was arguably made worse by the presence of Guehi in the City back line.

Liverpool fans were hopeful that the 25-year-old would honour his agreement with the Reds from last summer and stay at Crystal Palace for the rest of the season. Instead, he took a bumper contract at City.
As a result of his perceived betrayal, Liverpool fans booed Guehi from the first seconds at Anfield on Sunday. Having subsequently collected three points, the England international gave his thoughts on the negative reception.
Marc Guehi did not understand Liverpool boos
In the build-up to the game, Guehi claimed it was ‘God’s plan’ which made him sign for City, refusing to take accountability for his own actions.
This is possibly what wound Liverpool supporters up before kick-off, with plenty hoping that the defender would keep his word and join the Reds this summer.

Speaking to the Man City media team pitch side after the game, though, Guehi admitted that he did not understand why he was being targeted.
“I’m not sure why to be honest,” he said with a chuckle. “But I can’t control what their fans think of me.
“I’m just grateful for our fans for sticking by me and supporting me the whole game.”

Guehi boos were absolutely fair enough
Others have different views, but in the opinion of Rousing The Kop, Liverpool supporters were well within their rights to boo Guehi.
Yes, he wanted to join last summer, but barely four months later he had decided he would actually head elsewhere instead, despite Liverpool clearly being ready to wait for him and not sign anyone else.
While Guehi has a right to do as he pleases, the Reds are also justified to feel a little let down by his actions.
Furthermore, his claims that he’d joined ‘the best club in England’ upon signing for City felt like a direct dig at Liverpool, with supporters never likely to react well to such assertions.
Finally, and most simply, fans possibly felt that booing Guehi would give them an edge in a tight game. The former Palace captain has never visited Anfield under such conditions, and in our opinion it is always fair game to boo any opposition player in the hopes of helping the team.
