Leeds United fans will still be very frustrated with what happened in the January transfer window. Before the New Year, many fans did not hold hopes of any business in the market.
But then the club’s activity burst into life when they confirmed the signing of Facundo Buonanotte on loan till the end of the season. The Argentine was a huge summer target, but chose to abandon a move to Elland Road in favour of a move to Chelsea. Joining the Whites was reportedly a decision the midfielder made on his own, and accelerated when his representatives met with the club in December.

Leeds could have followed it up with another major signing, but the deal collapsed. The club was keen on Jorgen Strand Larsen, and even had a bid rejected for the Norwegian striker. Eventually it was revealed that the financial structure of the deal was not optimal for Wolves, who accepted a bid from Crystal Palace on deadline day.

On Tuesday night, Leeds United face Chelsea in the Premier League. When both sides met the last time, Daniel Farke shocked Enzo Maresca, winning comfortably at Elland Road. Now the two sides meet again, but this time with a different face in the dugout. Liam Rosenior has been in charge of the Blues for the last nine games and has a good record.
Facundo Buonanotte will have the chance to face his former employers who obviously did not rate the Argentine enough to keep him till the end of the season. According to journalist Simon Phillips, Rosenior held talks with many Chelsea players about their importance to the team – Buonanotte was one of them. The midfielder even started in the manager’s first game in charge against Charlton. He only made the matchday squad once after that game before his loan was terminated.

Question marks over midfielder so far
Buonanotte has made just two appearances since joining on loan, and was left out of the matchday squad to face Forest on Friday night. This has raised questions about his future just weeks after joining the club. He was a very important signing based on how much the 49ers wanted him, but to have played just 29 minutes has to raise question marks. Daniel Farke is known to want new signings to adapt before playing regularly, so the midfielder might still have a chance. But the next few games will be very interesting to follow.
