With more than three months of the season still to go, Liverpool is already deliberating over significant decisions.

After a summer of heavy spending, the Reds are keen to avoid repeating the errors that have led to a poor title defense. However, there's still much at stake. Securing a spot in the Champions League is a basic expectation, while Arne Slot's team remains in the running for UEFA's premier club competition. A victory in the FA Cup would also be a welcome addition.

In terms of long-term planning, Liverpool is considering the futures of several players, some of whom have contracts expiring in just a few months. Here's a summary of the latest news from Anfield...

Significant salary increase

Reports suggest that Liverpool is on the verge of rewarding Dominik Szoboszlai, who is midway through a five-year contract, with a substantial new deal following his stellar season.

Szoboszlai, who has been filling in at right-back due to an injury crisis in defence, has been one of Slot's standout performers.

The 25-year-old has expressed his desire to stay, and negotiations have been ongoing for some time.

Several reports indicate that these talks are nearing a successful conclusion, which would see Szoboszlai become one of the club's top earners, raking in around £250,000 per week (around $340,000).

Szoboszlai has been forthright, however, in stating that he doesn't view right-back as his permanent position and is keen to move back into midfield. He said recently: "Not long-term, not even medium-term to be honest in my head.

"As I've said before, I'm a midfielder and hopefully our right-back is going to come back from injury, and I can get back in the middle."

Real in Konate U-turn

Rumors connecting Real Madrid with Ibrahima Konate continue to persist.

Reports emerged at the end of last year suggesting the Spanish team had pulled out of the race for the Frenchman, whose deal runs out at the end of the season.

However, ESPN has reported that Real remains keen on Konate, who is still in discussions with Liverpool over fresh terms.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's clash against Manchester City, Slot confirmed that negotiations between the club and Konate's representatives were continuing.

With an agreement for him to remain at Anfield seemingly some way off, Madrid has a clear window to make its move, given that the Spanish club is now permitted to speak with the player, bolstering Konate's bargaining power.
