Jeremy Jacquet is set for a major change at Rennes.

The centre-back agreed to sign for Liverpool on winter transfer deadline day in a deal worth up to £60 million. It was agreed that Jacquet would stay Rennes for the rest of the season to continue his development.

However, the French club have announced that head coach Habib Beye has left the club following a 3-1 loss to RC Lens last season. Beye spent a year at the helm of the Red and Blacks. Jacquet has been a regular starter since Beye’s appointment, with a loan spell at Clermont being ended midway through the 2024-25 season so he could return to Rennes duty.

A statement said: “Stade Rennais F.C. has initiated proceedings against its head coach Mr. Habib Beye and his assistants Messrs. Olivier Saragaglia, Sébastien Bichard, and Yann Cavezza.

“Pending the forthcoming decision, the professional team's training sessions will be overseen by Sébastien Tambouret, Pierre-Alexandre Lelièvre, and Maxime Le Marchand until further notice.”

Reports suggest that former RC Lens and OGC Nice manager Franck Haise is set to take over at Rennes, which will mean a change for Jacquet between now and his move to Anfield.

However, Jacquet is set for a spell on the sidelines after being forced off in Rennes’ loss to Lens. The 20-year-old sustained a shoulder problem and left the pitch in agony. Beye suggested that Jacquet’s injury was serious.

French newspaper L’Equipe reports that Jacquet could be on the sidelines for ‘a long time’ and that he may require surgery.

Speaking on Liverpool striking a deal wit Jacquet, head coach Arne Slot said: Very pleasing, of course, because first of all he is a very big talent – and maybe even more than ‘only’ a talent, but we speak about talent because of his age, of course.

“Second of all because we weren’t the only one interested in him, so another big compliment for the people that are working every single day so hard to sign players, that we were able to sign such a big talent.

“And [it is] another example of the model we are using at this club: so, young, very talented players, sometimes in the start of their career, sometimes already a little bit a few years into their career, but always players that are young and can improve us and help us for the short, but definitely also for the long term.

“We have signed a lot of them recently and I’ve said many times that the mid- to long-term, but even the short-term, future of this club is in a very, very, very good place.”
