“I picked Milwaukee because they wanted me”: Cam Thomas embraces fresh start with Bucks

After a chaotic year in Brooklyn marked by tension surrounding contract talks during the offseason, Cam Thomas ultimately saw his time with the Nets come to an end when the team waived him. Once he hit free agency, the scoring guard drew strong interest around the league before choosing to join the Milwaukee Bucks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Thomas’ move to the Bucks was not by chance. The young guard said the Bucks were one of the few teams that showed real interest in bringing him in, sharing that insight in a conversation with Andscape’s Marc J. Spears.

“I picked Milwaukee because they wanted me and they told me they’ve been interested for years now. So, it’s good to have this opportunity come to fruition. And I’m just hoping to meet everybody, get to know everybody and contribute as soon as possible,” @24_camthomas to @andscape https://t.co/bAaNYdU6Qm

“I picked Milwaukee because they wanted me, and they told me they’ve been interested for years now. So, it’s good to have this opportunity come to fruition. And I’m just hoping to meet everybody, get to know everybody, and contribute as soon as possible,” the newest member of the Bucks remarked.

Milwaukee’s interest in Cam Thomas surfaced before the trade deadline. While the Bucks have gotten reliable contributions from players like Kevin Porter Jr., their spot in the standings has made one thing obvious: the Bucks attack still needs a boost.

During the 2025–26 season, Cam Thomas carved out production in a smaller role with Brooklyn. Despite averaging just 24.3 minutes per night, he put up 15.6 points and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 39.9 percent from the floor.

In many ways, bringing in Cam Thomas gives Milwaukee clear upside. His youth and scoring ability give the Bucks another offensive option they badly need. With the team ranking near the bottom of the league at 113.0 in offensive rating, Thomas has the skill set to help raise that number and inject some much needed punch on that end of the floor.
