Rayan Cherki has won the January Goal of the Month award for his vital effort against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg win.
The Blues were 1-0 up at St James’ Park courtesy of Antoine Semenyo and feeling more than a little aggrieved after a VAR decision ruled out a second for the former Bournemouth forward.
But, with time running out in the contest, Cherki gave us a more comfortable lead heading into the Etihad decider – and what a goal it was.
Rayan Ait-Nouri did brilliantly down the left channel, played the ball into goalscorer Semenyo who fed Cherki. The Frenchman then found the onrushing Ait-Nouri, who’d continued his run before playing it back across for Cherki in the middle who finished with aplomb.
Cherki beat off stiff competition to land January’s gong.
