'Really interesting': Wayne Rooney makes summer prediction about Arne Slot and Liverpool

Every Liverpool loss brings up the same question — surrounding Arne Slot’s future at the club.

While the performance against Man City actually provided some encouragement, the result is the same. More dropped points.

Liverpool’s league position is getting embarrassing, and Slot continues to be on the receiving end of sacking shouts and general dissatisfaction from the fans.

All season, it has felt like the Dutchman is at risk of losing his position.

Wayne Rooney can see that happening, but thinks there’s still a way for Slot to save his skin.

Wayne Rooney discusses growing pressure on Arne Slot

There has been no shortage of reasons to panic as a Liverpool fan.

The amount of red on the results sheet can only be compared to some of the bleakest days we have experienced. In fact, it’s on par with the catastrophe of 15 years ago.

That naturally means pressure on Slot, but Rooney reckons he can save his own skin.

As he explains on The Wayne Rooney Show: “The whole season really has been a concern for Liverpool, as obviously I’ve pointed out on here many times. But yeah, I actually thought the second half, they were brilliant today and they have been good in certain games, and not picked up the results.

“So yeah, I think it just brings a little bit more pressure on Arne Slot, I’d imagine. Now they’ve got to battle on to try and make a Champions League place. So yeah, I think there’ll be pressure coming on Arne Slot.

“I don’t think they’ll change anything now, but in the summer it’ll be really interesting. Arne Slot’s job might depend on if he finishes in the Champions League places.”

Rooney is right. Missing out on that would surely spell the end for the Dutchman.

Liverpool drifting further from qualification

The idea that Slot’s future hinges on making the Champions League is the popular theory among pundits.

Jamie Carragher doesn’t see Liverpool qualifying anymore, seemingly at the end of his patience with this side.

If they were to miss out, it would be an unimaginable fall-off from last season’s title run.

Man United and Chelsea continue to surge on under new management, so Liverpool can’t afford this pattern of dropping points to continue. With just 13 games to go, they need to be gaining ground, not losing it.
