Cam Thomas is officially off the buyout market, as the former Brooklyn Nets star signed with the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday.
Thomas could have been a solid addition to the Golden State Warriors as an explosive scorer with some playoff experience. Unfortunately, the Dubs must look elsewhere if they want to round out their roster swiftly.
According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, a 29-year-old Los Angeles Lakers outcast and former All-Star will likely be available on this year’s buyout market.
"Wizards GM Will Dawkins gave an update on D’Angelo Russell’s situation with the organization today: ‘We’ll try to figure out what’s best for him and for the team,” Siegel posted on X/Twitter Sunday. “Russell will not report to Washington and may very well hit the buyout market this upcoming week.”
If the Warriors were wise, they would consider adding Russell to the fold this season. The Ohio State product is already familiar with the Warriors’ system as he spent the first half of the 2019-20 season with the Dubs before getting traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves midway through the year.
Russell contributed 23.6 points and 6.2 assists per game in 33 outings with the Warriors that season, shooting 43.4% from the field and 36.9% from beyond the arc.
If a reunion were to occur, Russell’s two stints with the Warriors would be eerily similar. In 2019-20, Russell was heavily involved in the franchise because of devastating injuries (Curry and Klay Thompson were the most notable contributors sidelined for extended periods).
This time around, the 6-foot-3 guard would be joining a Warriors squad without Butler and potentially Kristaps Porzingis down the line (he has trouble staying healthy).
Time will tell if the Warriors express interest in reuniting with Russell this season.
