Chelsea now battling David Moyes for Premier League free agent - journalist

The January transfer window came and went for Chelsea, with the only meaningful addition actually in the dugout and not among the playing staff, with Liam Rosenior replacing Enzo Maresca.

Rosenior has since impressed as Chelsea manager, winning seven of his nine matches in charge of the London club. Only two defeats, which both came against Arsenal in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea have been excellent but the injury list is ramping up and in January, the Blues compiled a three-man list of centre-backs ahead of a possible signing. Jeremy Jacquet was the main target for the Blues.

Or are we missing something?

But he’s since joined Liverpool, ahead of the summer. But Chelsea had three players on their centre-back shortlist, with Como’s Jacobo Ramon and Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi also considered options.

Chelsea still interested in signing Marcos Senesi on a free

An Argentina international, Senesi has starred for Bournemouth since joining the Cherries from Feyenoord in 2022. He signed a four-year deal in 2022, and has since played 115 times for Andoni Iraola’s side.

But Senesi will turn 29 in May, and it is not the kind of signing Chelsea would normally make. However, a report from Tutto Juve journalist Mirko Di Natale says Chelsea are interested in landing the defender.

One of seven clubs, actually, considering moves for Senesi. Indeed, Borussia Dortmund are the latest to show interest, while Everton, Brighton and Crystal Palace want to give him a new home in England.

Di Natale reported on his official X channel: “Dortmund is the latest club to have inquired about Marcos Senesi. Juventus, Roma (as Brighton, Chelsea, Everton and Crystal Palace are the teams most interested.”

Marcos Senesi has the one thing Chelsea lack at centre-back

Chelsea have some brilliant options in the middle of the defence. Levi Colwill, Tosin, Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Mamadou Sarr, Benoit Badiashile, Aaron Anselmino, Josh Acheampong, and Jorrel Hato.

DISCUSS: Chelsea need Rudiger more than they need Jacquet. 👀

It just makes sense…

But Anselmino is out on loan, as is Axel Disasi. Tosin is injured, and other than Fofana and Chalobah, Chelsea lack a defender that is not only proven in the Premier League, but is a leader, somewhat older.

Senesi, on a free, would be a wonderful signing for most Premier League clubs. But the Argentine will want regular game time. His experience would be good for Chelsea’s young options in the summer.
