The Golden State Warriors’ roster will look a bit different following the Feb. 5 trade deadline.
Jonathan Kuminga (traded to the Atlanta Hawks), Buddy Hield (traded to the Hawks), and Trayce Jackson-Davis (traded to the Toronto Raptors) are no longer a part of the Dubs’ roster. Kristaps Porzingis, a former lottery pick and Hawks center, is the Warriors' new addition and, more importantly, Stephen Curry’s newest co-star in the Bay.
Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. recently spoke about Porzingis and his availability going forward, given his history of injuries. Somehow, Dunleavy’s statement turned into a cheap shot directed at Kuminga.
“With where he’s at right now, where he’s been, we feel good about it,” Dunleavy said Saturday. “On the other end of it, we’re sending out a player in a similar boat who struggled to stay on the floor (Kuminga)."
Dunleavy’s low blow didn’t sit well with Golden State’s fanbase.
“Mike Dunleavy is an evil individual, dude always takes shots at KJ for no particular reason and expects free agency would come to the Warriors.” one fan wrote on X/Twitter. “What a clown.
“Horrible GM and he's supposed to be the grown man in the room,” another fan stated. “This should tell y'all how toxic that environment is. Thank God JK is out of this nonsense. Now they can find someone new to blame.”
Dunleavy had no logical reason to bring up Kuminga’s name, as the reporter’s (ESPN’s Anthony Slater) question was focused on Porzingis.
Yes, Kuminga’s health was an issue during his 4.5-year stint with the Dubs. However, it isn't a good look to badmouth a recently traded contributor who had no business being involved in that particular conversation.
Dunleavy will likely regret unnecessarily dissing Kuminga on Saturday.
