Chelsea are said to be involved in a transfer battle to land a potential soon to be free agent.
Chelsea are said to be interested in a centre-back who could be available for free this summer. The Blues had a quiet winter transfer window, ultimatelly refraining from spending after failing to reach a deal for Rennes star Jeremy jacquet, who later agreed to join Liverpool ahead of the summer.
The Blues ended up recalling Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg, and that was the closest they got to a new signing, with Liam Rosenior a big fan of the defender’s having worked with him at the French club.
It remains to be seen what Sarr can offer, and whether he will change the very clear feeling at Chelsea over their need to add another centre-back. The Blues still have Levi Colwill to come back, but Enzo Maresca felt as though more depth was needed at the position, and the Jacquet pursuit means Rosenior likely agrees.
According to one report, Chelsea are interested in a deal that could save them millions this summer, with AFC Bournemouth star Marcos Senesi heading towards the exit dooras things stand.
Senesi has been a key man in Bournemouth’s recent success under Andoni Iraola, and he has continued to shine even after Dean Huijsen left. Senesi has made 24 league appearances so far this season, and being a left-sided centre-back, which is always a hot commodity, he is looking as though he is in demand ahead of the summer.
The clubs outside England do have an advantage in that they can already look to strike a pre-contract agreement ahead of the summer, though it’s not as if the powers that be actually crack down on clubs holding talks with players without permission to do so, and so the English clubs likely can look to agree a deal in principle.
Iraola praise
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has regularly praised Senesi for his impact. He told the Bournemouth Echo earlier this season: “I think Marcos has been very good. He was performing well even before I arrived to the club.
“I remember some games that I watched from the previous season where he performed really well. And with us, you know what to expect when you put Marcos in the starting lineup. On the ball, off the ball, he understands very well also the way we want to play and for us it's very valuable. I don't think it’s a big secret.”
