Jamie Carragher has criticised Dominik Szoboszlai for the red card he picked up for Liverpool in their defeat to Manchester City. The Reds were beaten 2-1 at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon as they were handed a blow to their hopes of Champions League qualification.
Szoboszlai opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 74th minute at Anfield, but the reigning champions conceded twice in the final moments with goals from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland, the latter of which came from the penalty spot.
The drama did not end there, with Szoboszlai later sent off for a challenge on Haaland for a pull on the City striker just as the ball hit the back of the net.
Referee Craig Pawson initially gave the goal but VAR intervened and disallowed the effort, with Szoboszlai going on to be shown a red card for the challenge on Haaland.
Szoboszlai will now face a suspension as a result of hs sending off against City, leaving Arne Slot with even fewer options in his squad as Liverpool look ahead to their clash against Sunderland on Wednesday night.

Carragher, a Liverpool legend, was working as a pundit for Liverpool’s defeat to City and was critical of Szoboszlai for the challenge that resulted in a red card, which will force the Hungary international to be unavailable for at least one match.
“It’s a stupid decision by Szoboszlai,” Carragher said on Sky Sports. “For me you just let it carry on and the goal goes in and I don’t think anyone’s complaining.
“It’s absolutely daft from him because he’s got time to think, he was running back.”
Haaland also gave his verdict on the red card for Szoboszlai, believing that a third goal for City and no sending off for the Liverpool midfielder would have been a better outcome.

"Of course, the referee had to follow the rules, but this will give him three games - in the end I feel bad for him because he gets three games [sic],” Haaland said.
"Just give the goal, don't give a red card. Simple as that. It's the rules and how it is. If Cherki just passed me the ball so I can score... but he didn't want to, so that's just how it is!"
