Atletico Madrid now preparing £48m offer to sign Chelsea star who John Terry called…

Atletico Madrid have now set their sights on signing one of Liam Rosenior's Chelsea stars, who John Terry called "world-class".

Rosenior shares latest Chelsea injury news

Don't say it too loudly, but Rosenior has made an excellent start to life at Stamford Bridge. The young manager entered the job in the face of endless doubters, yet has hit the ground running in impressive fashion.

Ahead of Chelsea's clash against Leeds United on Tuesday, the manager is yet to lose a Premier League game in charge of the Blues and his only defeats came in the Carabao Cup semi-final against champions-elect Arsenal.

That's not to say his job has been easy, either. Chelsea's schedule has been packed with fixtures as of late and Rosenior will need every member of his squad - making his latest injury update all important.

"Reece is fit. A small issue, but he’s feeling unwell today. It's not a conspiracy, it's true. Hopefully he’ll be well enough to play tomorrow. The staff have been down, my coaching staff, staff around the club.

"Fortunately only Reece from the players is affected at the moment. It’s something we’re just trying to work on at the moment."

It goes without saying that Reece James is among the most important players at Chelsea these days and his fitness has been refreshing for all parties, especially in a World Cup year.

It wouldn't be absurd to suggest that he's the best in his position in the Premier League and should be straight in Thomas Tuchel's England squad if fit and firing for the rest of the campaign.

The Blues boss has given his go-ahead.

James is unlikely to be the only name in the squad too, with Cole Palmer's recent hat-trick sending a timely reminder of his quality. It's at the World Cup that the England duo could come face-to-face with teammate Marc Cucurella, who has also been in the headlines as of late.

Atletico Madrid preparing Marc Cucurella offer

According to reports in Spain, Atletico Madrid are now planning an offer to sign Cucurella worth around €55m (£48m) this summer. The left-back has become one of Chelsea's most reliable players, but the Blues could still reportedly be tempted into selling the Spaniard for the right price.

Whether £48m is that price is now the big question. At 27 years old, Cucurella is at the peak of his powers and that should not be ignored when Chelsea make their decision.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion man is undoubtedly rated highly by those around Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea legend Terry going as far as to call him "world-class" at the end of last season.

A full international who has won on the biggest stage, selling Cucurella would be a regrettable mistake by all involved at Chelsea.
