Anthony Davis returns to Dallas: What happened?

Anthony Davis is heading back to Dallas to continue his rehabilitation for a hand injury and groin strain, working closely with his team and with the Washington Wizards' doctors.

Anthony Davis, the newly acquired Washington Wizards' 10-time NBA All-Star big man, will return to Dallas for health reasons.

The Wizards traded four players and five draft picks to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Davis, along with guards D'Angelo Russell, Jaden Hardy, and Dante Exum (now waived).

Davis is currently rehabbing a hand injury and groin strain, and there have been recent reports that his season could be over.

However, Wizards general manager Will Dawkins left the door open for a return.

"The plan for AD right now is to go back to Dallas and finish his rehab," Dawkins said, via Bijan Todd of Monumental Sports Network. "He has a really good team down there. Our doctors met with them, and our medical staff is going to go down with him. We want to keep that going."

Davis will undergo another key medical evaluation during the All-Star break, which will determine his next steps.

If all goes well, he is expected to return to Washington and could make his Wizards debut later this season.

This year, Davis appeared in 20 games for the Mavs, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game.
