Liverpool ‘contract in place’ to re-sign Jurgen Klopp star as Arne Slot could 'backtrack' on major decision

Liverpool could see the return of a familiar face next year following an interesting transfer update

Liverpool could perform a sensational U-turn decision on their sale of Jarell Quansah as the ‘contract and paperwork’ are reportedly in place for his Anfield return.

The Reds opted to sell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen last summer as part of Arne Slot’s blockbuster transfer window. Quansah was part of a significant ‘homegrown talent’ exodus, joining the likes of Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Doak out the door.

In response, Liverpool signed Giovanni Leoni to bolster their centre-back options but a crushing injury blow has cut his debut season short. His absence has left Slot with just three senior centre-back options, but injuries have also hampered Joe Gomez’s season.

Liverpool could re-sign Jarell Quansah amid defensive concerns

Signing a new centre-back has become a priority for Liverpool and according to Football Insider, they could turn to a familiar face to boost their ranks.

The report claims that the Reds ‘could be about to re-sign’ Quansah from Bayer Leverkusen in 2027. His £35 million transfer to the Bundesliga includes a buy-back clause, which can be triggered by Liverpool from next year onwards.

Quansah’s return to Merseyside can be secured with a ‘pre-agreed fee’ and the contract and paperwork for a transfer are reportedly ‘already in place’ for a deal to materialise.

Given Gomez’s recurring injury issues and Ibrahima Konate expected to leave the club this summer, Liverpool are in urgent need of new personnel in their defence.

Arne Slot could ‘backtrack’ on Jarell Quansah sale

Quansah was given his debut by Jurgen Klopp after making his way up through the youth ranks at Liverpool. The centre-back became a regular fixture in the first team squad and Slot also relied on him after Klopp’s departure.

However, the Dutchman clearly did not see a regular position for Quansah moving forwards, as his exit to Bayer Leverkusen was green-lit.

Despite his decision to offload the defender, Slot could now ‘backtrack’ on that and see the 23-year-old return to the club, should he remain in charge by then. Pressure is once again building on Slot’s shoulders following Liverpool’s latest defeat to Manchester City.

The Reds squandered their 1-0 lead and threw away what would have been a huge win in their push for top four. Liverpool are now sixth in the standings with 39 points on the board, just two ahead of Everton and five adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United.
