Chelsea may have a decision to make regarding the player’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge this summer
Chelsea won 3-1 away at Wolves over the weekend to boost their Champions League hopes. Cole Palmer scored a hat-trick at Molineux. Liam Rosenior has made a positive impression since his move to Stamford Bridge earlier this winter.
The 41-year-old was picked as their replacement for Enzo Maresca and has adapted well to life in his new role. His side take on Leeds United at home on Tuesday night in the Premier League. They then face Rosenior’s old team Hull City in the FA Cup on Friday night.
Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella linked with Atletico Madrid
According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are ‘preparing’ a ‘major offer’ worth £48million for Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella. He is being linked with a switch to La Liga this summer. The Blues could face a battle to keep hold of him in the next transfer window.
Cucurella, 27, is under contract with the London outfit until June 2028. That means that they are under no immediate pressure to sell him just yet. They can afford to wait for big money if they are to consider cashing in on him in the near future.
The Spain international, who has 22 caps to his name, has turned out to be a useful player for Chelsea over recent years. He joined them back in 2022 from Brighton and Hove Albion to boost their defensive department. The full-back has since made 147 appearances in all competitions, 34 of which have come this season, and he has chipped in with nine goals from the back.
Will Chelsea keep hold of Marc Cucurella this winter?
Chelsea won’t want to lose Cucurella anytime soon. He is an important member of their first-team squad and is a dependable option to pick from in defence. In addition, he is playing well under Rosenior at the back.
After joining the Blues from Brighton nearly four years ago, he said at the time: “I’m really happy. It’s a big opportunity for me to join one of the best clubs in the world and I’m going to work hard to be happy here and help the team.”
Meanwhile, chairman Todd Boehly added: “Marc is an elite defender of proven Premier League quality and he further strengthens our squad going into the new season. We continue to work on and off the pitch, and we’re delighted Marc will be a part of the present and future at Chelsea.”
Prior to his switch to Chelsea, he played 38 matches for Brighton and caught the eye at the AMEX Stadium. He rose up through the ranks at Barcelona but never quite made the grade at Camp Nou as a youngster. Instead, he went on to have spells at Eibar and Getafe to make a name for himself.
Rosenior’s men will need to be at their best against Leeds if they are to get another victory. Their upcoming opponents have been in solid form under Daniel Farke as they look to stay up. The Blues then have a potential FA Cup banana skin against a Hull side eyeing promotion from the Championship.
