At this time a week ago, many national media members believed the Milwaukee Bucks were going to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo. The NBA trade deadline, though, came and went on February 5, and Giannis remained in Milwaukee. Of course, the Bucks did make a trade, landing Ousmane Dieng from the Chicago Bulls. But they had no intention of ever trading Giannis.
In addition to acquiring Dieng, Milwaukee also signed guard Cam Thomas after he was waived by the Brooklyn Nets. This move was a surprise to many, who thought the Bucks would not try to further improve their roster and try for a high pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
But Giannis has always maintained that he wants to win in Milwaukee, so the Bucks felt they should do something and attempt to salvage what has been a disappointing season.
Cam Thomas thinks he will benefit from playing for the Milwaukee Bucks with Giannis Antetokounmpo

For a Bucks team that is deep in guards with Ryan Rollins, Kevin Porter Jr., Gary Harris, AJ Green, and Gary Trent Jr. already on the roster, the addition of Thomas was an interesting decision. However, he averaged over 20 points a game twice already in his young career, and can provide an immediate scoring impact, something Milwaukee desperately needs.
However, at the time that he was waived, Thomas was having a down season. After averaging 22.9 points on 44/36/86 shooting over the last two years, he has averaged 15.6 points on 40/33/84 shooting splits this season.
But the former first round pick thinks coming to Milwaukee and playing for Giannis is going to help him get back on track:
Cam Thomas on playing with Giannis:
“It means a lot. Just having that dominant force in the paint and just having somebody who can also attract two people. Having that gravity could do wonders for me. Just me being me, being a scorer. Hopefully I could take some of that pressure… pic.twitter.com/zyxYDZck76

“It means a lot,” Thomas said of playing with Giannis when he returns from injury. “Just having that dominant force in the paint and just having somebody who can also attract two people. Having that gravity could do wonders for me. Just me being me, being a scorer. Hopefully I could take some of that pressure off [Giannis] as well. So I think it can go hand in hand. Just happy to be on the team with him. Can’t wait to see him can’t wait to actually be on the court with an all-time great like that. I’m excited, and I can’t wait to win with him.”
Giannis will not play tonight against the Orlando Magic, nor will he play in any of Milwaukee’s other two games this week. However, he is targeting a February 20 return to the floor, the Bucks’ first game after the NBA All-Star Break.
