Chelsea’s Filip Jörgensen and West Ham United’s Mads Hermansen have been the backup goalkeepers to Kasper Schmeichel for Denmark.
Tipsbladet journalist Farzam Abolhosseini has urged Denmark manager Brian Riemer to overlook the Chelsea and West Ham players.
Jörgensen joined Chelsea from Villarreal in July 2024 while Hermansen arrived at West Ham from Leicester City last summer.
The 23-year-old made 24 appearances for Chelsea last season and played eight matches this season of which two were in the Premier League.
Jörgensen came off the bench in Chelsea’s league defeat to Manchester United following Robert Sánchez’s sending off. Beşiktaş wanted him, but Liam Rosenior’s side refused to sanction a move in the winter market.
Hermansen started the season as West Ham’s No.1. He quickly lost prominence and was on the bench for 20 consecutive league games. At the weekend, Nuno Espírito Santo started the 25-year-old Dane in West Ham’s 2-0 win over Burnley. It was Hermansen’s first league appearance for the Hammers since September.
Jörgensen and Hermansen’s limited game time hasn’t impacted their places in the national team.
The Chelsea stopper first received a call up in March 2025. He made his Denmark debut in June of that year and that has been the only appearance so far. Hermansen, on the other hand, has been with the national team since March 2023, without making his debut.
Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is the No.1 for Denmark. Abolhosseini wants Riemer to dump Jörgensen and Hermansen due to their limited minutes with Chelsea and West Ham respectively.
“I think Brian Riemer should take the consequences of these goalkeepers not playing. Mads Hermansen and Filip Jörgensen, how can you be a national team player without playing, isn’t that crazy? It seems completely crazy,” he said.
“I don’t think players who sit on the bench and are not good enough to play, goalkeepers or not, should be in the national team. In general, if you never get playing time, you should not be on the Danish national team.”
