Luis Enrique has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months following outstanding seasons in charge of Paris Saint-Germain.
The Spaniard further enhanced his reputation as one of the world’s elite coaches by guiding PSG to their first-ever Champions League title last season, sparking interest from several top clubs, including Manchester United.
Liverpool have also been credited with interest amid mounting pressure on Arne Slot. The Dutchman’s side were beaten 2–1 by Manchester City on Sunday, leaving the Reds sixth in the table and four points adrift of Chelsea in fifth.
Failure to secure Champions League qualification could place Slot’s position under serious threat, potentially forcing Liverpool to consider a change in the dugout.
Speaking in a 2013 interview with FourFourTwo, Enrique said he could see himself managing in the Premier League during his career. The Spanish coach said: “I’d like to manage in England at some point.
“My wife wouldn’t like the weather, she’s from Barcelona and likes the sun. It would depend on the team and the football they played.” Widely regarded as one of football’s finest tacticians, Enrique has an exceptional CV.
During his spell at Barcelona from 2014 to 2017, he won two La Liga titles, the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
He has since claimed two Ligue 1 titles with PSG, capped by European glory last season. Despite the speculation, the 55-year-old has played down talk of a departure.
Asked about his future amid links with Manchester United, Enrique insisted he has no plans to leave PSG, with reports suggesting he is close to signing a contract extension beyond his current deal, which runs until 2027. He told reporters: “I am so happy at Paris Saint-Germain. Ici c’est Paris!”
