‘Alarming’ stat shows Arne Slot almost as poor as Roy Hodgson despite near £450m Liverpool…

The stat is pretty damning for Arne Slot as he continues to feel the pressure

The world has been well aware of the Reds’ collapse in form this season but the magnitude of their fall from grace perhaps hasn’t been picked up on enough.

Arne Slot is once again feeling the pressure after Liverpool threw away their lead over City. The defeat marked their eighth of the season and leaves them sixth in the table with 39 points on the board. They are now just two points ahead of Everton and five adrift of the top four.

Talks have been ongoing surrounding Slot’s future and whether he will remain in charge beyond the summer. While the merry-go-round of rumours continues, an alarming fact has been brought into the spotlight.

Arne Slot 2025/26 tenure stat raises Liverpool alarm bells

Adam Crafton of The Athletic has highlighted that Liverpool have less points after 25 games played than Manchester United did under David Moyes after the same amount of time during his fateful stint in charge.

The Reds’ current tally is also just four more than they had after 25 games played in the season Roy Hodgson left the club. Hodgson departed in January 2011, with Liverpool sitting 12th in the table at the time. By the time they had played 25 games, they were seventh with 35 points won. The club was also strained financially, as opposed to the free-spending fans have seen more of in recent years.

Crafton has described this season as an ‘alarming swing’ compared to their title-winning run last campaign. Indeed, the Reds stormed to their Premier League title during Slot’s maiden season, finishing ten points clear of runners-up Arsenal.

Now, the Gunners are the ones leading the title charge and Liverpool are 17 adrift of the high-flyers.

Liverpool struggles continue despite record-breaking transfer window

Many around the world expected Liverpool to win back-to-back Premier League titles this season. After signing the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and an immediate Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement in Jeremie Frimpong, it seemed inevitable the Reds would triumph again.

But despite breaking their club transfer record twice, setting a British record and spending more than any other Premier League club in history in one single window, it hasn’t been enough to stop this turbulent rollercoaster.

Liverpool spent a total of £446 million on new signings last summer and have not seen the impact many expected. Fans have been left frustrated with the results despite such an expensive transfer window.

The fact their current tally is just four points higher than Liverpool’s total at this point during the 2010/11 season really is something to reflect on.

Naturally, the transfer market has moved and inflated over the last 15 years but fans will remember the Hodgson era as a very troublesome time for multiple reasons, and it’s not one Slot and this very expensive squad will want to be compared to.
