Liverpool injury news ahead of upcoming fixtures against Sunderland and Brighton.

Arne Slot will have depleted options when Liverpool make the trip to Sunderland on Wednesday.

The Reds find themselves in a tricky position in the Premier League, with the defence of their crown being meek. Liverpool sit just sixth in the table and face a battle to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

They are five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and four adrift of Chelsea. Liverpool travel to face a Sunderland side who are the only unbeaten team at home this season. Meanwhile, the Reds have an FA Cup fourth-round tie against Brighton on Saturday - a competition that there is pressure for Slot to win given Liverpool crashed out of the Carabao Cup early.

Ahead of the double-header, here’s a look at the Liverpool injury situation and if any players could be back for the upcoming fixtures.

Dominik Szoboszlai - suspension

The midfielder’s controversial red card against City was deemed as a professional foul. Therefore, he must serve a one-game ban and will sit out against Sunderland.

Return game: Brighton (H), Saturday 14 February.

Joe Gomez - hip

The defender was forced off in a 3-2 loss at AFC Bournemouth last month and has missed the past three games. Slot has admitted that he does not think that Gomez will be back to face Sunderland - and will not be able to start if he is in the squad.

Potential return game: Brighton (H), Saturday 14 February.

Jeremie Frimpong - groin

The Netherlands international was forced off in the early stages of a 6-0 Champions League victory over Qarabag. Slot was not optimistic that Frimpong will be back for either game this week.

Potential return game: Nottingham Forest (A), Sunday 22 February.

Alexander Isak - broken leg

The £125 million British record signing is out of his protective boot but is still very much on the road to recovery.

Potential return: Late March/ April.

Conor Bradley - knee

The right-back won’t play again this season after having surgery last month. There will be hope that Bradley can be back for pre-season.

Potential return: Summer

Giovanni Leoni - knee

The centre-back sustained a ruptured ACL on his debut last September. Leoni is set to return in pre-season.

Potential return: Summer.

Jayden Danns - hamstring

The striker has been plagued with fitness issues over the past 18 months. Slot suggested a couple of weeks ago that Danns was still not near a return to training and he will have to be carefully managed when he is back in training.

Potential return: Unknown.

Stefan Bajcetic - hamstring

The midfielder has not made an appearance at any level this campaign after having surgery in the summer. Slot revealed that Bajcetic has had a few setbacks and Liverpool will very much be cautious when he is able to return to the grass.

Potential return: Unknown.
