Bam Adebayo drops subtle jab against Jazz amid blatant tanking

The star big man didn't hold back from noting that Miami must win against teams that are "trying to lose."

In the postgame of the 115-111 Monday loss against the Utah Jazz, star big man Bam Adebayo expressed frustration about how he and the Miami Heat ended up losing.

Particularly, Adebayo dropped intriguing remarks regarding Utah.

“Gotta figure out how to consistently win games — doesn’t matter if it’s a back-to-back, four games, five nights, whatever it is," Adebayo told reporters.

"We gotta find a way to win even against teams that are, I guess you could say, trying to lose."

Last Saturday against the Orlando Magic, Utah chose to settle for a 120-117 loss. After leading by as many as 17, head coach Will Hardy elected not to play four of his five starters in the final quarter as they eventually endured the weekend loss.

But tonight against Miami, the Jazz's tank attempts miserably failed. The three of Lauri Markkanen, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jusuf Nurkic didn't log minutes in the fourth quarter, but Utah still came on top and won the game.

Utah's tactic of losing games has been raising eyebrows after the franchise just pulled the Jackson Jr. blockbuster deal with the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday's NBA trade deadline. Upon executing a move that must be helping them win more, the Jazz are suddenly letting themselves lose now.

The upcoming 2026 Draft Class will feature an overwhelming talent led by AJ Dybantsa, Cameron Boozer and Darryn Peterson, and the Jazz are certainly positioning themselves to grab one of them.

Despite the win against the Heat, the Jazz are still 13th in the West with a 17-37 record. Per Tankathon, they currently have a nine-percent chance to win the 2026 first overall pick.
