Liverpool are now aiming to beat Real Madrid in the race for an "incredible" striker, who has been in impressive form this season.
Reds looking to sign another new striker
The Reds invested heavily last summer, bringing in Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike to strengthen their forward line, and the latter has made a solid start to life in the Premier League, picking up ten goals and two assists in 22 appearances.
However, the reigning champions have fallen way short of expectations, and they are currently in real danger of failing to qualify for next season's Champions League, with Sunday's 2-1 defeat against Manchester City ensuring they remain four points behind fifth-placed Chelsea.
Arne Slot has had to make do without Isak since the end of December, with the Sweden international breaking his leg in the 2-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Liverpool striker Alexander Isak-2
There is no reason why the 26-year-old shouldn't come good in the long run, having amassed 62 goals and 11 assists in 109 games for Newcastle United, but the Merseysiders have entered the race to sign a new striker.
That is according to a report from Caught Offside, which states Liverpool are now aiming to beat the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain to the signature of AFC Bournemouth centre-forward Eli Junior Kroupi.
Having identified yet another striker as a target, FSG clearly mean business, but they may have to shell out a huge fee to get a deal over the line, as the Cherries believe they could hold out for £70m - £80m.
Kroupi has been "incredible" this season
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola lauded the 19-year-old as "incredible" at the end of January, and for good reason, with the teenager netting eight goals in 20 Premier League appearances.
The Frenchman is Bournemouth's top scorer in the top flight, displaying his versatility by featuring at centre-forward and in the number 10 role, which suggests he could be capable of playing in-behind Ekitike or Isak.
It would probably make sense to deploy the youngster in that role, should Liverpool manage to get a deal done, given that they spent big on their current strikers last summer, but there are question marks over whether they need to bring in another attacker.
Florian Wirtz has started to find his rhythm in the Premier League, picking up a goal and an assist in the 4-1 victory against Newcastle United at the end of January, so it may not be wise to spend £80m on Kroupi, and signing a centre-back should be a priority, given Ibrahima Konate's contract situation.
