**Chelsea legend Ruud Gullit believes Arsenal secured a “really good signing” when they brought in Noni Madueke from Stamford Bridge last summer.**
While the winger has had to be patient for his chances, Gullit claims that the Gunners have got themselves a player who is not only “dangerous” in possession, but has a high work rate off the ball as well:
“Noni Madueke is a good player, but he is having to play second fiddle to Bukayo Saka when both players are fit”
“If both are fit, Madueke is on the bench. When he is on the pitch, however, he is very handy and always a big threat, and I actually think one thing that stands out about him is how hard he works.”
“As much as I think he is dangerous on the ball, I think it goes unnoticed how good he is off it, helping the team. He is doing well at Arsenal and has been a really good signing for them.”
Madueke needs to take advantage of Saka’s absence
-------------------------------------------------
With Bukayo Saka expected to be [**unavailable with a hip injury**](https://goonernews.com/blog/arsenal-injury-news-leandro-trossard-martin-odegaard-bukayo-saka/) until the North London derby later this month, the summer signing has an opportunity to lay down a marker over the coming weeks.
Madueke did take full advantage of Saka’s absence during the 4-0 over Leeds at the end of last month, scoring a goal and providing an assist.
However, he didn’t make much of an impact against his old club in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final last week, while his performance versus Sunderland on Saturday was middling at best.
Arsenal have so much depth in wide areas
----------------------------------------
Manager Mikel Arteta is certainly not short of wingers. Even with Saka out, he can call upon the likes of Madueke, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli.
Even Gabriel Jesus can be used on the flanks if required, and that competition for places should hopefully get the best out of players like Madueke.
