Arne Slot has dropped a hint on who could start at right-back vs Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday night.
Liverpool arrives sixth in the table, still very much in the Champions League conversation but unable to shake the feeling that they’ve left points out there, especially after the recent 2–1 home defeat to Manchester City.
Arne Slot’s side were stung by the late Manchester City comeback at Anfield and now face a Sunderland team that has made a habit of bloodying the noses of the Premier League’s elite, particularly on home turf – where they are still to taste defeat at this term.
Much could hinge on how Slot patches up his right flank with Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley sidelined and Dominik Szoboszlai suspended, leaving the Reds to improvise again in a problem position.
And now the Dutch manager has dropped a hint on who could feature there tomorrow night, saying in his pre-Sunderland press conference today:
“My feelings haven’t changed. The moment I saw red card was disappointed not to have him vs Sunderland but referee did what he had to do. Not what we like if you love football but it’s the rules.”
“Joe hasn’t trained with us yet. I’m expecting him today for the first time.”
“Indeed, if Joe is not ready to start then we are missing four players who have played right-back. Curtis and Wata played in this position so had six different right full-backs.”
