Real Madrid 'open talks' with £140m Liverpool star and could use Camavinga in potential swap

Real Madrid appear to have taken a concrete step towards bringing one of Liverpool's top stars to the Estadio Bernabeu this summer. A new midfielder is on the cards, and the Premier League has been a focus for Florentino Perez's transfer chiefs.

Dominik Szobsozlai has been the Reds' best player this season and the Hungarian's future isn't certain at Anfield. He has made 34 appearances across competitions, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists.

The 25-year-old scored a stunning free-kick in Liverpool's 2-1 loss to Manchester City last weekend. He was sent off in the dying embers of that game after trying to prevent Erling Haaland from finding the back an empty net.

Real Madrid's pursuit of Szoboszlai intensifies

Szoboszlai will have two years left on his contract this summer and he wants a pay rise to extend his stay at Anfield. Reports claim that he is demanding €345,000 (£300,000) per week in wages.

A fresh report from Topskills Sports UK claims that Madrid have now opened talks with the Hungarian's agent and that he is viewed as a "dream signing." They are considering using Eduardo Camavinga as a makeweight in a possible deal.

Camavinga has been linked with the Reds with reports suggesting Alvaro Arbeloa has advised the board to sell the Frenchman. He feels the 23-year-old has been "underperforming" this season.

Liverpool don't want to sell Szoboszlai but could be prepared to do so if they receive an audacious bid of £140m (€160m). This should be taken with a grain of salt given Madrid have been reluctant to spend an outlandish amount of money since Jude Bellingham's arrival.

Szoboszlai has been with the Merseyside giants since the summer of 2023 and was a member of the team that won the Premier League title last season. His versatility allows him to play in multiple midfield positions and at right-back.

Real Madrid unlikely to afford Szoboszlai

The only way Madrid might be able to sign Szoboszlai would be to offer Camavinga as part of a deal for the Hungarian. The price mentioned is extremely unfeasible and doesn't suit the club's current transfer strategy.

While the versatile midfielder has been superb this season he isn't exactly a world beater and his valuation is the kind of money that should be spent on an Erling Haaland or Vitinha. A new midfielder is needed at the Bernabeu but not for such a huge fee.

Manchester City are also reportedly keeping tabs which would make a potential transfer even more difficult. The Cityzens' finances are always difficult to contend with and there's no indication the player wants to relocate.
