Man City have reportedly made contact with one of Man United’s main transfer targets.

Manchester City managed to keep their title hopes alive over the weekend with two late goals against Liverpool to snatch all three points at Anfield on Sunday. Pep Guardiola will have been delighted that his side could stay in it, as they now sit six points behind rivals Arsenal.

It is understood that Man City want to sign a holding midfielder in the summer, as they look to find a replacement for the injury-prone Rodri. It seems that they may decide to jump ahead of Man United for one of their targets.

Man City make ‘early contact’ with Elliot Anderson

Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson is set to be available in the summer, as several top clubs are eyeing a move for the England international. With Forest struggling, Anderson would likely jump at the chance to join a big club, and it is no surprise there is interest.

They report that Man City would be expected to bid anything in the region of £80m to £100m, with Nottingham Forest demanding a fee of £100m for Anderson. However, as they sit just three points above the relegation zone, the midfielder’s price would drop significantly if they were to go down to the Championship.

Man United are very keen on Anderson too

As mentioned, City aren’t the only ones who want to sign the Forest star, as their rivals Man United are also very keen. With Casemiro set to leave the club in the summer, and Manuel Ugarte struggling for form, the Red Devils desperately want to sign a new holding midfielder for the future.

Anderson is one of their primary targets alongside Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. Baleba is expected to command a fee of over £100m, as the Seagulls are reluctant to sell him.

As far as Wharton is concerned, he has also attracted previous attention from Real Madrid and Liverpool. It seems that Man United qualifying for the Champions League would likely play a big role in their potential recruitment of a new holding midfielder in the summer, due to the competition from City, Liverpool and others.
