Arne Slot has conceded Liverpool must be “close to perfection” as the Champions League race reaches its climax.
Aston Villa are eight points above Liverpool in third place in the Premier League, with 13 matches left in the battle for a top-four finish and qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Manchester United and Chelsea are also above Liverpool, who are down in sixth spot.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Slot admitted Liverpool cannot afford to drop many more points between now and the end of the season because he doesn't expect Villa, United or Chelsea to stumble badly.
"(We have to be) close to perfection because of the points we are behind,” he said.
“We also know it is different when you are four points behind a team that are 18th or 19th in the league because they usually don't pick up as many points as the number three, four or five picks up.
“So to close the gap to numbers three, four and five that means you have to win a lot and that is not what we have done this season a lot, so that is why that has to be better and that is why we have to be close to perfection.”
