Report: Chelsea's stance on Nicolas Jackson once he returns from Bayern Munich

Nicolas Jackson has been enjoying his time at Bayern Munich after joining on loan from Chelsea.

Chelsea thought they were onto a winner with Nicolas Jackson after becoming the fifth-fastest player in club history to reach 20 Premier League goals.

But he just struggled for any kind of consistency and discipline issues crept into his game, forcing Chelsea to push him out of their plans.

The confusing part was that Chelsea attempted to cancel the deal just as it was being finalised. After a hamstring injury to new signing Liam Delap, the board ordered Jackson, who was already in Munich for his medical, to fly back to London immediately to provide squad cover, but he refused.

And after all that, Bayern Munich doesn’t even want to keep the striker.

Chelsea doesn’t see Nicolas Jackson as a long-term solution

The Blues love a planned deal, and that’s what they’ve done with Emanuel Emegha, who is set to join in the summer from sister club Strasbourg.

This throws Nicolas Jackson’s future into doubt, as that would mean Joao Pedro, Delap, Emegha and Jackson, when Liam Rosenior only usually plays one striker.

But it seems as if Chelsea aren’t too keen on him anyway.

TeamTALK reports that Nicolas Jackson is not viewed internally as a long‑term option, which has placed even more scrutiny on Liam Delap’s performances.

Harsh on Santos, but at home, let’s get as many attacking players on the pitch as possible 💪

Are Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap good enough?

Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap offer two very different profiles for Chelsea’s front line, with Jackson excelling in creative buildup and transition, while Delap is a more traditional number nine.

Across Jackson’s two seasons at the club, he recorded 30 goals and 12 assists in 81 appearances. And his partnership with Cole Palmer was a delight to watch at times. Paul Merson even claimed recently that the Palmer has been struggling without Jackson.

While Delap has been a consistent presence in the matchday squad, many of his appearances have come as a substitute, resulting in a total of approximately 1,096 minutes played across all competitions.

However, his goals have come at critical moments, including his first for the club during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and a recent Premier League strike in the 2-1 defeat to Fulham.

But neither player has really set the world alight.
