Everton can break a six-year trend over Merseyside rivals Liverpool tonight

Everton play host to Bournemouth at the Hill Dickinson Stadium this evening.

Everton defeated Fulham at the weekend, so they’re in search of back-to-back wins against the Cherries.

Paul Merson has predicted the Toffees to draw, explaining that Jack Grealish will be a huge miss for the hosts.

Another victory for David Moyes’ side would lift them into the top six of the Premier League table, and it’d break a five-year trend.

Everton can go above Liverpool in the Premier League table tonight

At this stage of the season, Liverpool have been above Everton in the Premier League table for the last five years, dating back to 2021.

But, if the Toffees pick up three points against Bournemouth, they will actually move above their Merseyside rivals and into sixth place, breaking a five-year trend.

Moyes’ side would also move on to 40 points, and that would be the earliest date they’ve achieved that feat since the 2016/17 season under Ronald Koeman.

Koeman’s men got to 40 points on February 4th 2017, and ended up finishing the season in seventh on 61 points.

David Moyes has doubled down on European ambitions

Speaking ahead of the Bournemouth game, Moyes doubled down on his ambitions to qualify for Europe this term.

“I’d rather the talk be about European places and not relegation places,” the Toffees boss stated.

“Probably the history of the club recently has been relegation places. I think we would all quite enjoy that talk about European places.

“At the moment we have a long way to go but if you hang in with the teams above us, you just never know.”

Seventh place will almost certainly be enough for Conference League qualification, so that’s the goal for Moyes’ men.
