Chelsea’s December spiral which eventually led to the departure of Enzo Maresca began with a 3-1 defeat to Leeds, which was the watershed between previous impressive results against Arsenal and Barcelona; and the bad run that followed.
Liam Rosenior was asked what he made of Leeds in that game, and what he was expecting of them tonight. He was full of praise for Daniel Farke’s team, who have upped their game significantly since turning their season around by beating us.

“They were magnificent in that game,” Rosenior said of the first meeting between the two sides in yesterday’s pre-match press conference.
“Very forward thinking and direct. And when I say direct, I mean it in a really positive way: they use the strengths of their team.
“They use Dominic [Calvert-Lewin] – his movement in the box is outstanding – and they get corners in the box and counter-press really well. We have to stand up to that and overcome the intensity [they will bring], which is key to the game.”
Leeds really showed us up in that first game – they just wanted it more. But Elland Road is a very difficult place to play, and we’re at home tonight. We will also see a team that’s far more motivated and engaged than that Maresca team.
Stamford Bridge will want their revenge, and things could get feisty… we’re already looking forward to it.
In other news…
While Chelsea were very good in the first half on Saturday, they eased off in the second. Liam Rosenior explained why he thought that had happened in his press conference yesterday. Let’s hope there’s no repeat tonight.
Paul Green’s departure from Chelsea has proved very controversial. The former head of women’s football left last night.
