Former Cavaliers GM David Griffin says LeBron James could return to Cleveland, hinting the superstar might finish his career where it all began.
Former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin believes LeBron James may end his legendary NBA career where it all began.
Griffin, who worked with James during his second stint in Cleveland, shared his thoughts on the possibility of the Lakers superstar returning to the Cavaliers.
"There's a big part of me that would be surprised if he doesn't on some level, just because Northeast Ohio means so much to him," Griffin said on BIGPLAY Sports Network. "It would be surprising to me on some level if he didn't want to. But knowing nothing and having no relationships of any kind there, it's hard to say, but I can tell you the theater of it excites me."
Griffin's words highlight the strong connection James has with Cleveland. Born in Akron and drafted by the Cavaliers in 2003, James delivered the franchise its only championship in 2016 before leaving for Los Angeles in 2018. A return would bring a full-circle narrative for one of the greatest players in NBA history.
Currently, James is finishing another season with the Lakers alongside Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Los Angeles sits fifth in the Western Conference at 32-20, but injuries, including Doncic's hamstring, could affect their playoff push.
Cleveland already has a competitive roster featuring Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, and solid supporting pieces. Adding James would turn the Cavs into immediate title contenders and give him a chance to finish his career at home.
This season, James is still performing at a high level, averaging 23.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 8.9 assists while shooting 50.4% from the field.
