€75m bargain – Transfer from Liverpool hyped as goals + assists excite

Bayern Munich’s decision to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool in the summer is now seen as a masterstroke, even at €75m.

BILD cover the Colombian today, hyping up the winger as his goals and assists continue to impress at the German giants.

The newspaper explains that sporting director Max Eberl faced criticism in the summer for paying €67.5m plus €7.5m for the winger. The general consensus was that the Liverpool star was too old, too expensive and didn’t guarantee top performances.

That has not been the case, though. Luis Diaz is delivering every week. In Sunday’s 5-1 win over Hoffenheim, he was involved in all five goals. He scored three of those himself and won two penalties for Harry Kane to convert.

18 goals + 14 assists for Luis Diaz since Liverpool exit

COLOGNE, GERMANY – 29 OCTOBER, 2025: Josip Stanisic, Luis Diaz – The football match of Germany Cup DFB Pokal 1.FC Koeln vs FC Bayern at Rhein Energie Stadion.

Luis Diaz now has 13 league goals this season. His overall tally for Bayern is 18 goals and 14 assists in his first 30 games. Those are impressive numbers, particularly when comparing him to the likes of Nick Woltemade (23/9 goals for Newcastle), Viktor Gyökeres (27/13 goals for Arsenal), or Benjamin Sesko (22/6 goals for Manchester United).

Eberl is certainly feeling vindicated about paying what he did to Liverpool. “We are extremely pleased that what we saw and decided on with conviction in the summer was the right thing to do – even if, at 28, his age is supposedly a bit higher,” he said.

“Luis made a huge difference back then in Liverpool with a team that was already very successful. And he’s seamlessly continuing that at FC Bayern. A player with incredible passion and commitment.”

After his first 30 games, Luis Díaz already has a better scoring record than legends Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. It’s an impressive record, to say the least. Bayern are certainly happy. As far as they’re concerned, the €75m paid to Liverpool was a bargain.
