Liverpool transfer stance on Yan Diomande emerges

Liverpool’s season continues to stutter, with Champions League qualification now looking an uphill task. Predicting results, or even momentum, has become increasingly difficult as Arne Slot’s side chase Manchester United and Chelsea – a situation that would have seemed unthinkable just months ago.

There have been signs of improvement in recent weeks, albeit from a low base, and even Sunday’s defeat to Manchester City offered some encouragement despite the disappointment in the dressing room.

With over three months of the campaign remaining, however, major decisions are already being weighed behind the scenes. After heavy spending last summer, Liverpool are eager to avoid repeating the mistakes that have contributed to a disappointing title defence.

Champions League qualification remains a minimum expectation, while the Reds are also still competing in Europe and the FA Cup. Long-term planning is also underway, with several players nearing the end of their contracts and potential reinforcements being assessed.

One such target is Yan Diomande. The 19-year-old winger has impressed at RB Leipzig this season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 22 appearances following his move from Leganes. He made his Ivory Coast debut in October and has emerged as one of Europe’s breakout talents.

Although January was considered too soon for a transfer after just six months in the Bundesliga, Liverpool have already scouted Diomande and remain interested, alongside other Premier League clubs including Tottenham.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, the Reds are currently holding off on a move after the youngster recently changed agency. Tavolieri posted on X: “Liverpool are holding off on Yan Diomande! 🔴🦅 The Reds have been made aware of a valid contract (running until December 2027) between the Ivorian and the agency he left for Roc Nation.

“The contract is legally registered with the English FA. Yan Diomande is also reported to have assigned his image rights to his former agency — a fundamental prerequisite, without which it is impossible to negotiate his contract with LFC. A deadlock that is forcing Liverpool to wait until the personal situation is resolved before moving forward.”
